Hyer Images bio picture

{ Billy & Rachel Hyer }

Thanks for stopping by!  We are Billy and Rachel Hyer, the creative heart behind Hyer Images.

We met in 2007, while attending Hallmark Institute of Photography. We’ve worked together as photographers since then, with more than 13 years of experience between us.  Now we are married and living in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina.  We love it!

We are so grateful to be doing our dream-job - capturing creative, unique images for our clients every day. Using natural light and our unique process, we achieve a style that is “editorial” and “dreamy.”

What inspires us?  Beautiful light, and everyday things like the early morning air, a good hearty laugh, the smell of the salt air, and vintage pieces. In our down time, we love going to the beach and cuddling on the couch watching movies.

Please set up an appointment anytime, we would be happy to hear from you! We love meeting new people and keeping up with current and past clients.

Have a blessed day!

-Billy & Rachel

Charleston Wedding Photography { Bride’s Favorite Photo Picks }

Out of curiosity, I contacted a few brides and asked them to show me their favorite image from their wedding day and why. I loved seeing and hearing all the responses, I think I will make this a featured post more often. Here are my bride’s responses to my question, I love how each is different….

0001

– “This was so hard – I really do love our entire album of photos! I’m going to pick this one as our favorite because this one picture has everything we dreamed about having in our wedding. We wanted to have a very Charleston wedding, since it is the location where we met and where we’ve made a home together. This photo captures it all: the water, the moss, the big tree and the most gorgeous sunset I have ever seen. Other than it being simply breathtaking (I can’t believe that is me in the photo!), this one will always remind me of where we fell in love and of our perfect wedding day. We loved working with you and will enjoy our photos forever!”

0002

–”Ok so this was a hard task… This is my favorite. It captures the sweetness of the day with the surrounding venue.”

0004

–”I have the photos constantly running on my screensaver so I am always checking out new ones. They are such a beautiful representation of our day. If I had to pick only one photo, I think I would pick this one of us walking down the aisle after the ceremony. I choose this one because it takes me back to that moment in time, and how extremely happy we were… I feel like our happiness is emanating through the photo, and I can really feel that moment and all the emotions that I had. Even above the portraits, I think this one wins. And a close second is the one below, of our backs as we are walking down the beach…Gosh I love this photo, it is also a sweet moment and I just adore it.”

0005

0006

–”This photo is my favorite because it captures such a genuine moment. After the ceremony, Logan and I both we so happy and relaxed, and this picture really showcases the joy I was feeling. When Rachel and Billy were taking this series of pictures, Rachel commented that we both looked so at peace, and this picture will forever be proof of that. I love it!”

0003

–”This is one of my most favorite pictures from our wedding day. I love the puppy’s expression, our laughter, and this unexpected moment with my husband right before our wedding ceremony. You can’t plan moments like this!”

0009

–”It was so tough to choose just one favorite because we love so many of them! I’d have to say this is definitely a top contender. I love it because you were able to capture such a genuine moment of happiness. It doesn’t feel staged to me. It’s such a simple image without a lot of fanfare, but you still managed to make it interesting and beautiful while keeping the focus on the feeling of the moment. There is something about this image, and really each one of your photos, that has a hint of romance that I just love.”

0007

–”There are seriously hundreds that I could call my favorite, but since I must pick, I had to boil it down to 2. This is one we’ve blown up and hung prominently in our dining room to remind us of the best day ever! I love how the photo captures the scene of the day, with the huge oak trees surrounding us all, ready to swallow us up in a big hug. I like that our intimate list of guests are all included and the band also looks so sweet offset in the photo.”

–”The photo below captures perfectly how we felt all day. Just pure joy, and you snapped it and cropped the photo just perfectly. This photo serves as a very, very special moment for the two of us.”

0008

If there is a moral to this post, I think it is this… who are we as photographers to judge what will be a couple’s favorite photo? We need to take the time and care into every single part of the wedding day because what they may choose as their most precious memory is not up to us. The pressure should not be on where the portrait session is held, what radical edits we use or how many unique poses we may come up with, we need to be present mind and body with camera in hand to capture their emotions, their scene, their loved ones, their day. That’s our job and we cherish it.

Charleston SC Engagement Photography { Jen & Riz }

I wanted to post a few favorites from Jen & Riz’s engagement session, we are really looking forward to their upcoming wedding in July. The photos below show only a few reasons why we love photographing in the south.

Charleston SC Wedding Photographers { Kelly & Logan }

This wedding of a killer couple was one of our favorites! If you are more of a slideshow person, here’s a link to view their slideshow : http://hyerimages.com/kellyloveslogan/

Also, here’s a snippet from the bride herself about the wedding… “Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of getting married under the oaks of my grandparent’s home. Luckily, they were kind enough to make that dream a reality. Since we chose to get married on family property, I wanted the wedding to have the elegant yet relaxed vibe of home, almost as if we pulled all of the beautiful things out of the house to decorate for the event. To capture this feeling, we used heirloom silver for the centerpieces, illuminated the bars with antique candelabras, and used my grandfather’s vintage Model A as our getaway car. Because the property itself is so special, we were careful not to compete with the natural beauty. We employed a subtle color palette of ivories, blushes, grays, and lilacs to allow the lush greenery and bloom azaleas to shine. The beauty of the outdoors also lent itself to the organic touches we showcased: hand painted wooden signs, moss initial wreaths, the free form ceremony wreath, and gilded antlers (a nod to my husband, an avid hunter and outdoorsman) as napkin weights on the bar.”

Las Vegas Desert Photography { Laurie & Dan }

Billy was visiting Las Vegas in March for WPPI and was able to set up an engagement session with one of our couple’s who live in LA. Dan found the location, Laurie styled the wardrobe and Billy had a blast photographing all of it. Dan & Laurie are getting married this fall here in Charleston and we will be looking forward to their wedding!

Charleston SC Wedding Photographers { Marissa & Jonathan : A Rainy Day Wedding }

Gals, I just love this wedding and this couple. Billy photographed it by himself a few weeks back and after seeing the photos, I wish I was right there next to him in my rain boots shooting away. After photographing so many couple’s weddings, I think it is super important for all future brides & grooms to consider the possibility of rain and how you are going to deal with it if it happens. I really love and respect the way Marissa & Jonathan embraced it, they knew it was their wedding day, rain or shine, and they ended up jumping in puddles. So if you are gearing up to check your 10 day forecast for your big day, just keep in mind that it is about you and your man getting married. The rain can’t change that, so please just try to embrace it like this sweet pair!

This wedding was entirely too irresistible to not share, although any wedding designed by Ooh! It is a great privilege of our job to be able to see the true love they have for one another, not to mention the incredible details! Congratulations you two!

Hello world! I swear I haven’t purposely been taking a hiatus from blogging, we have just been incredibly busy – I am not complaining, we feel so blessed for everything that 2012 has brought thus far. The Lord has blessed us with wonderful brides & grooms, lovely groupon clients, brand new camera gear, beautiful new albums AND we are in the works building a brand new website that will be live in July (fingers crossed)!

So to keep up with our huge workload right now, I am posting only a small fraction of images from the last few weeks to give y’all a sample of what we have been up to!
